GIFT-LEAP is designed to teach children that healthy eating and physical activity can be fun!

This FREE 50-minute class is intended for kids ages 5-9. Parents are invited to attend with their children each week and continue the fun at home! Parents are expected to attend weeks 1 and 6.

The class is designed to be interactive with around 30 minutes of educational material with around 20 minutes of physical activity based learning segments. 

This 6-week program also provides tools for parents to: 

- encourage healthy eating habits
- increase physical activity
- shop on a budget
- incorporate healthy lifestyles into a busy schedule

The parent sections talk about ways to shop for healthier items on a budget, encouraging and getting kids to actually eat fruits and vegetables, and how to portion a child’s plate/meals.

PLEASE NOTE: This class is created and led by the Department of Health. Registration into this program does not provide families with priority co-op class registration since this class is not affiliated with the Homeschool Learning Co-op program.

The Homeschool Learning Co-op (Brandon & Gardenville) is an inclusive educational program created by the Alliance for the Pursuit of Knowledge, Inc., a federal non-profit organization whose mission is to provide educational support and resources to homeschool families and the community as a whole. With the collaboration of the Hillsborough County Department of Parks and Recreation, the organizers of the Alliance continue to volunteer countless hours to create an affordable, and inclusive program for the community. All of our teachers volunteer their time to provide quality, inclusive, engaging classes.

HOW OUR PRICING WORKS:

1) Class Fee (you pay it here when you complete your registration): Our class fees are non-refundable. This is how we pay for the location and operating costs. The price is $1 per class per child.

For example:

If you register one child for one class in Spring 1, you would  pay $9 through this portal because it's a 9-week session.

if you register one child for one class in one of the EXTENDED sessions, you would pay $18 through this portal because it's an 18-week session. 

2) Materials Fee (you pay that to the teacher before or on the first day of class): This fee is different for each class, so please read descriptions carefully. This goes directly to the teacher to help him/her pay for copies, materials, etc.

We are open to anyone in the community, families do not need to reside in Brandon or Gibsonton to participate.
